The Best Dance Movies Ever

Okay before you say, "what about this movie and that movie" this is a totally opinion based page. Most of the movies on here (except for Step Up 2 and How She Move) you can rent on DVD and they’re all fairly recent. They also have a lot of dancing in them (duh) and really hot people and really cool clothes. BTW not hot like "It’s 100 degrees in here" but hot like, "Wow those people and dance moves are hot." So here are some of the more recent ones we’ve pegged as BDMEs based on look, music and dance (of course).

Step Up 2: The Streets

Hey wait a minute – who’s that cool chick in the middle? Why it’s none other than Stars Dancewear cover model Brianna Evigan. That’s like one degree of separation. Big ups to making Andie such a strong character.

Look: Have you the seen the poster?
Music: Bass thumping grooves that you cannot deny
Dance: Yeah it’s all that. You can’t look any cooler dancing in the rain.

Step Up

Can’t have a sequel without an original right? Yeah this is good too but in a different way. This one has that hunkalicious lead actor who played Tyler (Channing Tatum).

Look: It’s pretty... hot
Music: So good it’s infectious.
Dance: Will make you want to find a dance partner immediately.

You Got Served

OMG – this is the coolest street dancing you’ll see on film. If only real gangs did this instead of fighting. Off the hook? No, off hook, chain and whatever it’s connected to.

Look: These are some of the best dressed street dancers ever.
Music: Hip hop beats and then some
Dance: Jaw meet drop, drop meet jaw

How She Move

Okay so you’ve heard about step dancing. Well this is like the ultimate step dancing movie. It's got stuff in there you have never, ever seen. They need to have an Oscar for choreography because this movie would win.

Look: Looking bad is not an option.
Music: It’s step dancing folks – it’s all good.
Dance: So good you will think these are special effects.

Stomp The Yard

Speaking of step movies this is a good one too. Not as mind blowing as How She Move but definitely worth taking a look at. It skews a little bit older because these kids are in college but it’s still a groovy good time.

Look: Nice duds and fresh styles.
Music: Step into smoothness.
Dance: This is the kind of dancing you wish you could do.

Take The Lead

This is like Dancing with the Stars except in high school. It’s a great mix of ballroom and modern dance. Who woulda thunk it? Plus you get that cool Antonio Banderas dude as the teacher. Nice.

Look: Classy, hot, smooth.
Music: Makes you want to dance even if you don’t.
Dance: So hot you could see steam coming from the screen.

Honey

Two words. Jessica Alba. Fist off she’s cool as heck. And second, the girl’s got the stuff. So she can act and dance too. The movie isn’t some deep story or anything but it’s sweet and has a good vibe.

Look: Jessica Alba.
Music: A really nice mix of hip hop.
Dance: Nice to look at and fits well with the music.

Save The Last Dance

Alright, technically it’s not a "dance" movie like the other ones but it’s a really nice love story and deals with the issue of people of different races getting together. It’s a movie you and your parents would like.

Look: Modern and stylish.
Music: Solid tunes that are not all just crazy grooves.
Dance: The dance is part of the story so it works really well.

Center Stage

If you’ve been to ballet or done ballet and haven’t seen this movie then go online right now and put it in your cue. Or go down to the store and rent it. Whichever, you need to see this movie. It’s really close to reality in a lot of ways and it’s a good story too.

Look: Very Authentic.
Music: Not as much about the music but still has some good tunes.
Dance: It’s ballet – hello? Like it wouldn’t be good?
